Pachakam is a cultural magazine built around Kerala. The whole thing is a concept: I designed it and wrote the copy out of things I actually enjoy and pay attention to.

It started as a community element for OurFit, my UI project, and was only ever meant to be a footnote to it. The design process turned out to be far more interesting than that, so I built it out properly.

Three articles: the duopoly, Kani Kusruti, and Kerala's drug crisis. All of it designed by hand. You can read the whole issue in the 3D model below.

  1. Pachakam — cover: art, music, dance, culture, craft, from Mala Naadu
  2. Gabri — full-bleed portrait, Paravoor, Kochi
  3. Opening feature on the rapper Gabri
  4. Two Ace of Spades — playing-card opener
  5. Duopoly — Mammootty and Mohanlal essay
  6. The Powerful Geometry of an Unbent Spine — opener
  7. Essay on Kani Kusruti
  8. Hello, I Am Addiction — halftone portrait
  9. Inside Kerala's Drug Crisis
  10. Pachakam — back cover: a Ravi Varma painting with an End key
